To create new opportunities you must do things differently, and create new habits. Here are some keys to creating new habits:

1. Start Small

Part of the way to be successful creating new habits is by gaining confidence. Do not set your goals so high that they are unattainable, start small to help you achieve your goal. Make it so easy that you have no choice but to do it. Creating a new habit is not about willpower but about making something automatic. For example if you are wanting to exercise everyday, don’t start with 60 minutes, start with 20 minutes, or even 5 minutes and build up from there.

2. Make Small Increases

When you achieved your first goal look to set a new goal to improve, but do it in such a way that it will be a stretch while setting yourself up to succeed again.

3. Segment Your Goal

Break up your goal to create a habit by doing it several times a day instead of doing it during a large block of time. If you have set a goal to do 100 pushups a day then do them in sets of 25 throughout the day instead of doing all 100 at one time.

4. Don’t Beat Yourself Up

Allow yourself to make errors, but be quick to make adjustments. If you miss out on your goal one day, don’t allow to do it two days in a row. Give yourself some grace while maintaining discipline. If you continue to fall short look to see if you can find out the reason and see if an adjustment must be made.

5. Patiences Is A Virtue

Don’t give up easily. Make sure to keep your eyes on the long term goal, and give yourself time to improve and make adjustments along the way. Self improvement is an important way to continue to open new doors throughout your whole life to create enjoyable experiences and to have new opportunities.
