Famous TV and Movie Front Doors
Some of the most memorable doors we’ve ever seen have flashed into our lives across a movie or television screen. They have been a part of providing us with hours of entertainment and fueled our imaginations with ideas and dreams. If you are in the market to buy exterior doors online, take a look at these cinema memories, and maybe you’ll find some inspiration.
221 b Baker Street
Who can forget the famous address of the world’s greatest detective? Sherlock Holmes, with his observant eye and mournful violin music could be the perfect muse for an inquisitive, steam-punk loving bibliophile. The game is afoot!
Bag End
What child, reading J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit for the first time, didn’t dream of opening that round door and running off into the blue for a wild adventure? There might not be dragon’s in your future, but you can certainly mimic Bilbo Baggin’s hospitality in your own home.
Tara
Scarlet O’Hara standing in the doorway of her beloved Tara, watching Rhett Butler stride away, was a swoon worthy movement in cinema. Gone With the Wind fueled the hearts of many young girls with dreams of by-gone days of gorgeous dresses and Southern romance.
Pemberley
Every new generation of viewer falls in love with Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice and when we read or watch Elizabeth Bennett walk through the grand entrance of his estate, Pemberley, we can see one of the reasons she’d change her mind and her affections about him. After all, “It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.” Jane Austen: Pride and Prejudice (1813)
Auntie Em’s house
My mother was a young child when The Wizard of Oz came out in movie theaters. She told me once that the entire audience gasped in delight when Dorothy opened the front door of Auntie Em’s little farmhouse and stepped out into the wonderful world of Oz. Up until then there just hadn’t been any full-color films. To this day, that simple wooden door signifies the possibilities and magic waiting for us in the wide world, and the knowledge that no matter where we go, there’s still no place like home.
Manhattan Townhouse
Sigh, what woman doesn’t dream of getting a beautiful gift, wrapped up in a Tiffany blue box? Or imagine herself gliding along as beautifully as Audrey Hepburn? The class and style of Breakfast at Tiffany’s has lived on, inspiring every generation who has seen it. Making us yearn for new places to see, new things to do, while still valuing a place to come home to.
Boo’s Closet Door
Since the release of Monster’s Inc. I don’t think any child (or adult for that matter) has viewed the “monsters” under their bed or in their closet doors quite the same. It’s a little easier to laugh in their presence, now that we know they’re just trying to light up their homes.
