Auntie Em’s house
My mother was a young child when The Wizard of Oz came out in movie theaters. She told me once that the entire audience gasped in delight when Dorothy opened the front door of Auntie Em’s little farmhouse and stepped out into the wonderful world of Oz. Up until then there just hadn’t been any full-color films. To this day, that simple wooden door signifies the possibilities and magic waiting for us in the wide world, and the knowledge that no matter where we go, there’s still no place like home.
