Get Outside! The Summer is Short and Winter is Coming!
The amount of warm weather can vary greatly in this country. It can range from a few months to much of the year. But one thing that’s constant is that there are more fun activities available during the summer months. We told you how to keep your home cool this summer but it's important to spend time outside when you can as well. Here’s how you can enjoy summer no matter where you live.
There’s nothing like the taste of freshly picked produce. Most cities and towns have farmer’s markets once or twice a week all summer long where you can purchase fresh produce, baking, and craft products from local vendors. If you haven’t tried freshly picked produce, you should head down to your local farmer's market to try some fresh fruit or vegetables to taste the difference.
Outdoor festivals are popular all summer long. Ranging from huge concerts to small events in your local park, outdoor festivals are a fun way to enjoy some music and meet new people. Outdoor festivals can also range from a few hours to a few days so check your local listings for what’s coming up in your area.
Concerts aren’t the only thing going on in your local park. Other events such as flea markets, art shows, children’s festivals, and athletic events take place all summer long.
Spend Time Outside
There’s no doubt that when a heat wave comes along, you probably don’t want to spend too much time outside between the hours of 10 am and 2 pm. But if you can get outside earlier in the morning or later in the evening, the weather may be just about perfect for walking, playing, or simply enjoying your time outside.
Remember your sunscreen and drink lots of water so you don’t end up feeling terrible the following day.
Enjoying a meal or drink on a patio, either your own or someone else’s is a great way to truly enjoy the summer months. Enjoying a delicious meal as the sun goes down can be a delightful way to end a long, hot day. If you prefer morning sun, having your morning coffee while sitting outside is a nice way to start your day.
You can also enjoy the many snacks that seem to taste better in the summer. Walking the beach while eating an ice cream, snacking on fresh watermelon on a picnic, and watching your child trying to eat that popsicle before it melts are some of the joys of summer.
There seem to be more free activities in the summer, which is great for everyone’s wallet! Check your local city or town’s website or follow them on Facebook for the latest information. Free activities range from demonstrations to parades, to free movies or concerts, so stay in the know for the most fun.
You can also make your own free or inexpensive summer fun with sprinklers, visits to the beach, and playing catch in a local park.
A Note of Caution
Summer sun can be very hard on your skin, so wear an SPF sunscreen to protect yourself and your loved ones from a sunburn.
The summertime is also when insects come out. Wear an insect repellant to keep the bugs from ruining a good time. If the creepy crawlies followed you inside, check out these simple tips to keep insects out of your home.
