1. Warranty Coverage
Krosswood Doors guarantees our products against manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship for a period of one (1) year from the date of purchase. This warranty extends only to the original purchaser and is not transferable.

CRITICAL LEGAL DISCLAIMERS: TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THIS WARRANTY IS EXCLUSIVE AND IN LIEU OF ALL OTHER WARRANTIES, ORAL, WRITTEN, STATUTORY, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED. KROSSWOOD DOORS SPECIFICALLY DISCLAIMS THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. ANY IMPLIED WARRANTIES THAT CANNOT BE DISCLAIMED BY LAW ARE LIMITED IN DURATION TO THE ONE (1) YEAR PERIOD OF THIS EXPRESS LIMITED WARRANTY.

WARRANTY REPLACEMENTS (THE "NO-RESTART" RULE): The repair or replacement of a product under this warranty does not extend or restart the original warranty period. The warranty for any replacement unit or component expires on the same date as the warranty for the original product purchased on the original invoice. Replacements provided outside of strict warranty obligations do not create new warranty rights.


2. Storage & Handling Requirements
(Must be adhered to PRIOR to installation)
Damage resulting from improper storage or handling prior to installation is excluded from coverage. To maintain warranty eligibility, the following conditions must be met:
  • Climate Control: Doors must be stored in a dry, climate-controlled area. Storing wood doors in damp environments (such as garages, basements, porches, or sheds) is strictly prohibited and voids the warranty.
  • Positioning: Doors must be stored flat on a level surface off the floor. Leaning doors against walls for extended periods can cause immediate bowing and voids this warranty.
  • Acclimation: Do not subject doors to extreme heat, dryness, or humidity changes. Allow doors to acclimate to the home's relative humidity before finishing.
  • Premature Installation ("Wet Works"): Installation must not occur until all construction "wet works" (drywall mudding, taping, texturing, and painting) are fully dried and complete. The high humidity released during these processes causes rapid expansion in natural wood and MDF, leading to catastrophic failure that is not covered by warranty.

3. Environmental Exposure & Installation
Proper placement is critical to the life of a wood door. Wood is a natural product that expands and contracts with heat and moisture. Failure to adhere to these exposure guidelines voids the warranty.
A. The "No Direct Sun" Rule (The Heat Standard)
Wood doors installed in entryways with Direct Sun Exposure are excluded from warranty coverage, regardless of overhang depth.
  • Definition: Direct Sun Exposure is defined as the door panel receiving unobstructed sunlight at any time of day, during any season. Unless the entryway provides permanent shade to the entire door surface from sunrise to sunset, the door is considered exposed and ineligible for wood door warranty coverage.
  • High-Risk Exposures (South, Southwest, & West): Entryways facing these directions are subject to low-angle sunlight that often passes beneath standard overhangs. If your overhang does not fully shade the door in these orientations, Wood Doors should not be used.
B. Calculating Adequate Overhang (The Moisture Standard)
To prevent water infiltration and rot, wood exterior doors must be protected by a roof overhang that meets specific dimensions.
  • Important Note: The formulas below calculate the minimum overhang required for rain and snow protection. Meeting these dimensions does not guarantee compliance with the "No Direct Sun" rule (Section 3A). You must ensure your overhang is deep enough to block both rain and direct sunlight.
The Moisture Protection Formulas:
  • Height (H): Measure the vertical distance from the bottom of the door to the lowest point of the overhang directly above it.
  • Depth Requirement: The overhang depth must be at least half of the height (D ≥ 1/2 H).
  • Width Requirement: The overhang width must be at least equal to the height (W ≥ H).

C. Required Alternatives
For entryways that cannot meet the "No Direct Sun" rule (Section 3A) or the "Moisture Protection" formulas (Section 3B), Krosswood Fiberglass Doors must be used. They are engineered to withstand direct UV exposure and do not require an overhang.
D. Storm Door Restrictions
Excessive heat accumulation caused by trapping air between the entry door and a storm door (the "greenhouse effect") can cause permanent damage.
  • Wood Doors: The installation of a storm door of any kind over a Wood Door voids this warranty. Wood doors require airflow to maintain moisture equilibrium; trapping heat will cause rapid warping, splitting, and finish failure.
  • Fiberglass Doors: Storm doors installed over Fiberglass Doors must be vented. The use of a non-vented, full-glass storm door traps excessive heat that can cause thermal bowing or damage to glass lite frames. Damage resulting from the use of non-vented storm doors is not covered under this warranty.

4. Visual Inspection & Glass Standards
Krosswood Doors adheres to ASTM C1036, the federal and industry standard for quality in flat glass. Because glass is made from natural ingredients, it is not possible to be 100% free of microscopic imperfections.
  • The "10-Foot Rule": Inspection must be done from a distance of 10 feet, at a 90-degree angle, in natural daylight (not direct sunlight). Imperfections, scratches, or bubbles that are not visible to the naked eye under these specific conditions are not considered defects.
  • Glass Breakage & Thermal Stress: Glass breakage is only covered if caused by a seal failure or manufacturing defect (e.g., fogging between panes). Stress cracks caused by heat accumulation, shadow patterns (Thermal Stress), or impact are not manufacturing defects and are excluded from coverage.
  • Visible Defects: Any visible damage, including glass scratches, torn sweeps, or shipping damage, must be reported prior to installation. Once a door is hung or hardware is installed, the customer accepts the product "as-is" regarding all visible conditions.
  • The "Discovery" Rule: All claims must be submitted in writing within the one-year warranty window. Claims made after 365 days from the original delivery date will be denied, regardless of when the alleged defect "occurred" or was "discovered."

5. Finishing & Maintenance
    General Maintenance
  • Ongoing Maintenance & Annual Inspection: A protective exterior finish degrades over time due to UV and moisture exposure. The customer is solely responsible for the annual inspection and necessary refinishing of the door. Natural fading or weathering of the finish is strictly a maintenance issue, not a product defect. Krosswood will not honor warranty claims for any structural or cosmetic damage—including fading, warping, splitting, or rotting—resulting from a failure to maintain an adequate, active protective seal over the life of the door. 
    Unfinished Doors
  • Incomplete Components Exclusion: Wood doors sold "Unfinished" are classified as Incomplete Components. They are not "exterior-ready" products. Krosswood assumes zero liability for the performance of the wood substrate—including but not limited to fading, bleaching, warping, or checking—if the door is exposed to the elements prior to being fully sealed on all six (6) sides.
  • The "6-Side" Finishing Mandate: All wood doors must be properly finished on all six sides (front, back, top edge, bottom edge, left side, right side) within ten (10) days of delivery and strictly prior to exterior installation. Failure to finish all six surfaces voids the warranty entirely.
    Adequate Finishing Requirements: To maintain warranty validity, the finish applied must meet the following minimum commercial standards: 
  • For Painted Doors: A minimum of one (1) coat of high-quality exterior primer, followed by a minimum of one (1) coat of exterior-grade, 100% acrylic or oil-based paint. 
  • For Stained/Clear-Coated Doors: A minimum of two (2) coats of an exterior-grade, UV-resistant sealant (such as marine-grade spar varnish or exterior polyurethane).
  • Prohibited Treatements: The use of penetrating oils (e.g., Linseed, Tung oil), interior-grade lacquers, or waxes as the sole protective layer on exterior doors is strictly prohibited and instantly voids this warranty. 
  • Hardware Prep: All cutouts, hinge pockets, and boreholes must be sealed prioir to hardware installation to prevent moisture ingress. 
6. Corrosive Environments & Chemical Exposure
Hardware finishes and metal components are not warranted against corrosion, pitting, or tarnishing caused by:
  • Environmental Conditions: Installation in high-salt or high-humidity environments (e.g., within 2 miles of coastal water).
  • Harsh or Abrasive Cleaners: Damage resulting from the use of non-neutral cleaning agents, including but not limited to: bleach, solvents, acids, ammonia, or abrasive scouring pads. (Note: Only mild soap and water should be used for cleaning hardware).
  • Decorative Accents: Rusting or discoloration of decorative metal accents (including grilles, clavos, straps, and caming) is considered a maintenance issue due to environmental exposure and is not covered.

7. General Limitations & Exclusions
The following conditions are not considered defects in material or workmanship and are not covered by this warranty:
  • MDF & Interior Door Usage: MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) doors are engineered for interior, climate-controlled use only. Installation of MDF doors in any exterior application (including protected porches or patios) or in high-humidity environments (such as saunas or pool rooms) voids the warranty.
  • Environmental Movement: Wood is a hygroscopic material. Expansion, contraction, or changes in form due to environmental conditions (moisture, temperature, humidity) are natural. This includes panel shrinkage, misalignment, or the appearance of unstained lines along panel edges (where the panel moves within the sticking).
  • Environmental Reactions: Fading, "sun-bleaching," or color changes caused by UV exposure, humidity, or temperature fluctuations. Wood is a natural material; its reaction to the environment is a maintenance responsibility, not a product failure.
  • Hairline Wood Cracking: Small surface cracks (checking) that do not compromise the structural integrity of the door.
  • Panel Shifting: Floating panels are engineered to move with humidity. Minor shifting that exposes unfinished "stain lines" is a natural characteristic, not a defect, and remains a homeowner maintenance responsibility.
  • Installation & Frame Alignment: Problems resulting from improper assembly or installation are not covered. This includes water/air infiltration (leaks) and failure due to bowing, twisting, or misalignment of the frame or jamb in which the door is hung.
  • Hardware Installation: Problems resulting from the improper installation of hardware (lock sets, handles, strikes) or the use of incompatible hardware are not covered.
  • Warp: Warping or bowing of the door that does not exceed 1/4 inch in the plane of the door. (Note: Action on any claim for warping may be deferred for up to 12 months to permit the door to acclimate to temperature and humidity conditions).
  • Trimming Limits:
    • Wood Doors: Trimming exceeding 1/2 inch from the sides/top or 1 inch from the bottom voids the warranty.
    • Fiberglass/MDF Doors: Any trimming or cutting of the door structure voids the warranty.
  • Natural Variations: Wood is a natural product. Variations in color, grain, texture, or the appearance of knots are natural characteristics and are not considered defects. Knots, grain patterns, and color variations inherent to the wood species are expressly excluded from coverage.
  • Improper Installation: Damage resulting from failure to follow installation instructions, including installing interior doors in exterior applications.
  • Water Infiltration: Water penetration through the door unit is often a result of installation (flashing/caulking) or lack of overhang, and is not a manufacturing defect.

8. Limitation of Liability & Remedies
A. Product-Only Remedy (No Labor or Paint)
This warranty is strictly limited to the repair or replacement of the defective product. Krosswood Doors is not liable for any labor costs associated with inspection, removal, re-installation, or re-finishing (painting/staining) of the door.
B. No Consequential Damages
Krosswood Doors excludes all liability for incidental or consequential damages. This includes, but is not limited to: loss of use of the home, loss of time/profits, temporary lodging, or damage to other property (such as flooring or drywall) resulting from product failure.
C. Scheduling & Delays (The "Do Not Book" Rule)
We are not responsible for contractor fees, "trip charges," or wasted time due to shipping delays or damage. Do not schedule installation until the product has been received, inspected, and verified as correct. Costs incurred by scheduling contractors prior to inspection are the sole responsibility of the homeowner.
