Enjoy Evenings Outside with a Simple Fire Pit

Is there anything better than sitting by a backyard fire pit, roasting marshmallows, and enjoying time with family and friends? If you don’t already have a backyard fire pit, you can make one that’s not too expensive or time-consuming. With a few simple tools, you can create a safe and enjoyable spot to enjoy those warm summer nights.

How to Make a Backyard Fire Pit

Materials Needed:

• 39 rounded landscaping stones
• Measuring tape
• Spray paint
• Level
• Shovel
• Paver base
• Rake
• Garden hose
• Tamper
• Rubber mallet
• Concrete adhesive
• Caulking gun

Step One

In your lawn, mark a 49” circle with spray paint. Using the shovel, remove the grass and roots, going down 2”.

Step Two

Using the level, check to ensure the dirt is level. Remove any dirt needed to make the circle level.

Step Three

Add 1.5” to 2” of paver base. Water it down with the garden hose and then use the tamper to compact it. Add more paver base and repeat the tamping. Check to ensure it’s level before completing.

Step Four

Place 13 homestead pavers in a circle. Make sure you check to see if they are level from side to side and front to back. Use a rubber mallet to make them level.

Step Five

Once the first layer is level, add a second layer, making the bricks offset from the previous layer (the center of the second layer should be at the seam of two bricks on the first layer). As with the first layer, ensure the bricks are level.

Step Six

Remove the second layer, one-by-one, and add concrete adhesive so the bricks stay in place. Use several squirts of the adhesive for each block, ensuring they don't move once the adhesive has cured.

Step Seven

Add the third layer, offsetting the bricks so they align with the first layer. Use adhesive to ensure the bricks stay in place. Keep checking the level to ensure the bricks are still perpendicular to te ground.
